I am a descendant of Thomas CARMICHAEL b. Feb. 14, 1808 in Scotland, d. June 4, 1887, in Halifax County, VA (USA). He was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Mitchell CARMICHAEL m. January 30, 1807, in Forgan, Fife, Scotland. Thomas had three known brother's at this time. They were;
Adam CARMICHAEL b. October 20, 1809
James CARMICHAEL b. September 01, 1811
Alexander CARMICHAEL b. October 30, 1813
This information was sent to me by Jimmy CARMICHAEL of Scotland and it was taken from the Christening Records in Forgan, Fife, Scotland. I have the information on all of Thomas CARMICHAEL's from his marriage to Elizabeth Caroline Averret (or Averrette) b. about 1830, d. unknown on January 31, 1859, in Halifax County, VA (USA). They had all of this information on The Family Tree Maker and could send it to you if you'd like. Any information on Thomas before 1856 would greatly be appreciated. I have been researching this family tree for almost 8 years now, during which time I've become disabled and cannot go out like I was doing at first to gather information. The computer is my main source of contact now for gathering information from friends and family members. Thank you for any help you can give me on this. Anxiously awaiting your reply.

The web page looks great! What a thorough job you have done!
I have written an article for the February newsletter that lists my family geneaology from Duncan who came to North Carolina from Lanarkshire in the 1760s and whose family, through his son Archibald, ended up in Greene County, Indiana, where there is a Carmichael Cemetery. Many of Duncan's descendants are buried there. Hoagy Carmichael, songwriter and actor, is part of this branch of the family. According to Jimmy Carmichael's web page, Duncan was the son of John who was born in Lanark in 1712. His father was William who was born in Lanark in 1680 or 81, and his father was John who was born in Lanarkshire in 1660. That's as far back as I've gone.
Thank you for all the time you have put into this.

Good morning,
Just wanted to take a moment and congratulate you on your website. I enjoyed
surfing it and reading Volume 39 and 40 which is the area my people went to
from NC, Robeson (Macon Cty, Marion Cty GA,). Your sister Jo pointed it out
to me. Me and Jo are convinced that we're related throught the Hills and
Barfields, Brewers or Horns or something like that. I visited her a few
months ago and we researched together some. I really wish my sister also was
interested in geneology. Your sister is very proud of your website
accomplishments and after looking through it I could see why. I'm sure that
many seekers of information will pass through your site during they're quest
for the past! Keep up the good work and much luck in your search

Research Notes =I am seeking participants for the Carmichael DNA Surname Project.
I would like to have male Carmichael participants from all over the world. The objective is to determine how conserved the Carmichael Surname is with respect to direct paternal lineages. I would also like to solicit into this project participants with variations in the Carmichael surname, such as Carmicheal or Carmichelle.
Basically, if we are all related to one common Carmichael, then we should have the same or very similar Y-chromosomes. The project will examine 26 locations on the Y-chromosome (we might upgrade to 37 locations before the project testing is initiated). If two Carmichaels were to match 26 out of 26 locations on the Y-chromosome, this would indicate a common paternal lineage of less than 10 generations (having common g-g-g-grandfathers.
Interested parties may contact me with questions. All data will be published. Participant's names will not be published. As a paid participant, you will receive your individual Y-chromosome DNA profile. Upon special consent, participants will be able to contact other participants. Therefore, if you find a Carmichael that matches your DNA profile you may want to contact them, and compare Genealogy Data to see if you can find the common ancestor.

Research Notes =Just discovered this website and found it very interesting. I scanned all entries through 2002. I was mesmorized by all the entries for the Carmichael Clan. I am the oldest of 7 children born to Marion Dugal and Maxine (Mallett) Carmichael. His father was Marion G. (Gus I believe) and Josephine Carmichael. Marion and Josephine also had a son, Robert. I don't know anything after this. I belive my father was born in Fort Wayne, IN. There is reason to believe that one of my grandfathers parents may have been Phillipino. If anyone can add to this information I would appreciate it. I am interested in going back on the Carmichael side of our family
