Records

Census Records of Carmichaels throughout the US. Collection currently concentrated in North and South Carolina.
Cemetery Records A collection of tombstone inscriptions, mostly located in the Carolinas.
Wills / Estate Papers Extant wills and Estate records of Carmichaels, some abstracted, some transcribed in full.
Immigrant Carmichaels
They came from Scotland, but sometimes by way of other places. Tracing your immigrant Carmichael back across the ocean is often the hardest step to research. Naturalization oaths were not required in the US before the 1790's. Many of our Carmichaels immigrated in the period from the early 1700's to 1776. The Revolutionary War halted immigration to the colonies. Few ship's passenger records are extant for the 1700's. It was only after England realized the extent of the mass migration, that the government began requiring shipping lines to keep records of passengers. Most ship's passengers lists from this period are compiled from contemporary accounts (primarily newspapers). Immigrants after the 1800's are more likely to be included in published passenger lists, and also to be required to take Oaths of Naturalization.
Deeds / Land Grants Abstracts of deeds, land grants, plats where available and any other type of land records (such as quitclaims, etc).
Miscellaneous Records Everything else! Tax lists, judgment rolls, bible records, military records; anything I don't have enough of to justify a page of its own. As more data is added, record groups may be moved to individual pages.

I encourage you to contribute! Any data that you have gleaned from public records and are willing to share, please consider submitting. There is no monetary reward, but in my humble opinion, genealogy is all about sharing. That is the best way we can continue to add to our knowledge of past generations. If you would like to submit data for inclusion in these pages, please email me (address below). Please do not send material from published works unless you are the author. I cannot publish anything on these pages unless I have written permission from the author of the work. For example, census records you have copied from the NARA microfilm rolls are OK because they are public records. Census records you have copied from a published book are not public domain records, and cannot be posted here. I can accept any format - electronic or printed - and will, of course, publish credit to the author (you!) on the web pages.
