"Farmers and labourers among the emigrants gave as their reason for leaving the increased rents or the loss of their land to sheep raising. Laborers were unable to support their families on the wages received. Captain Allan Stewart went to settle on lands granted him at the end of the last war and if troubles continue in America he will offer his services to General Gage in Boston. Tradesmen have prospect of getting better wages and because their relations are going."

[I have posted the entire passenger list due to the many families who inter-married with Carmichaels, notably Black, McIntyre, Stewart and McColl / McCall. I feel it is entirely possible that McCole and McColl were used interchangeably. This is one of the few extant passenger lists from this time period which includes Carmichaels. - djk
