The following deed abstracts and transcripts include a title line which has the date of signing formated for sorting purposes. The letter/number reference in the title is the Deedbook/page number. The title line also uses modern-day spelling of names of interest for ease of searching. The actual abstract or transcript retains the actual spelling.

They also had a brother Shadrach who also came to Marion County. See Duncan & Mary Probate & Equity records. This Lee family also had Robeson Co NC connections. Most of the Lee family sold out and went to Georgia and to Florida. Also, this land was actually deeded to Neil Monroe Carmichael, son of Duncan and Mary Monroe Carmichael, when Neil M. was a small boy, as proven in later court proceedings regarding the lands. -jcd] [Abstracted and contributed by Jo Church Dickerson.]

Also note that Dougald reserved HIS lifetime right to lands - Does this mean that Flora was already dead? Usually the wife's lifetime right is also included... Was Dougald near death when this was done? Did he die shortly afterward??? Also see P/307 similar to son Malcolm, brother Daniel named as guardian of Daniel. Could it be that Michael & Malcolm were children of different mother - not of Flora??? At any rate, all these seem to be settling of estate of Dougald. No idea why nothing was probated. Maybe wasn't required if he disposed of all lands before his death, as he seems to have done. -jcd] [Abstracted and contributed by Jo Church Dickerson.]

Land Grants & Plats

Individual plats available online are linked to the plat description for each land grant & survey. In order to better understand the complicated relationships among the Carmichaels of the PeeDee River area, I'm working on a composite of how the various Carmichael lands were situated in relation to each other and the surrounding waterways. When completed, you will be able to view the composite map of the plats here (not available at this time). This composite is based on the US Geological Survey 7.5 Minute Series Topographical Map for Fork, SC dated 1959, scale 1:24 000 and was created with DeedMapper Version 3.0 for Windows.
