Welcome To Matt Combs Genealogy Page!
My father is William L. B. COMBS (son of Frank B. COMBS and Pearl L. LYONS) and my mother is Barbara J. GROVES (daughter of Charles A.E. GROVES and Mary V. WILSON). We are from Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland.
My COMBS line is from Allegany County, MD, and Hampshire and Mineral Counties, WV. It is believed these COMBS were originally from Fauquier County, VA. Family tradition is that the COMBS were Scotch-Irish. My COMBS have a long history of being in the newspaper and printing business. COMBS have worked for the Cumberland Alleganian, Piedmont Independent, Mountain Democrat, Hampshire Review, South Branch Intelligencer, and Virginia Argus and Hampshire Advertiser newspapers.
My LYONS line is from Morgan and Hampshire Counties, WV.
My GROVES line came to Allegany County, MD in the 1880's. They were from the Hollidaysburg, PA area (Blair County) before coming to Allegany County.
My WILSON line is from Hampshire County, WV. The early WILSONs are from Allegany County, Maryland.
