"Death of John H. LYONS --
John H. LYONS died at his home, 144 Walnut St.; 7:15 o'clock
Saturday morning, aged 53 years. Deceased had been ill from dropsy
for several months but had borne his sufferings with much fortitude.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the
Junior Order of United Americans, and is survived by the following
children: Myrtle, Pearl, Etta, Ethel, Orrie and Wilbur LYONS living
at home, and Samuel, residing at Beryl, WVa.
The remains were taken to Paw Paw, WVa., on B&O train No. 8
Monday morning, where the funeral services were held, with
interment in Camp Hill Cemetary, at that place."

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. Funeral

"This is my last will to all whom it may concern as follows to wit
that out of my estate my funeral expenses and all honest debts is to
be paid and the residue of my estate to be divided as follows: I
bequeath to AMANDA R. LYONS $80 to DARCAS ANN BURKE I bequeath $25 to
JOHN T. MORELAND and WILLIAM MORELAND and S.E. GOLDSBURG and LYDIA ANN
CRABTREE and SUSAN M. MC CULLOUGH the above 5 named heirs are to have
equal amounts of the Estate after the above stated amounts are paid as
stated I bequeath to Myrtle M. Lyons (grand daughter) my bed and
bedding and carpet. This the 11th day of Feb., 1897.
Witnessed by Benjamin F. Foreman and Mrs. Thomas Kuy Kendall."

be the last will and testament of Mary Moreland, deceased, was this
day presented in this...office and it being represented and shown that
the 2 ..witnesses to said will viz: Mrs. Thomas Kuy Kendall and B.F.
Foreman are sick and feeble and unable to travel from the town of Paw
Paw where they reside to this office. It is therefore ordered that
the depositions of the said Mrs. Thomas Kuy Kendall and the said B.F.
Foreman be taken in the said town of Paw Paw on the 8th day of March
1897 and any one authorized to take depositions in this county is
thereby directed and empowered to take the depositions of the said
Mrs. Thomas Kuy Kendall and B.F. Foreman and where so taken and
reduced to writing certify the same so taken ...under my hand and

In the name of God, Amen. I, Richard Moreland, of the County
of Hampshire and State of Virginia, being of sound mind and
disposing memory, do make and ordain this my last will and
testament.
First, I give to my beloved wife Elizabeth some beds, bedstead
and bedding, also twenty pieces of bed clothing to be selected
by her.
Secondly, I give to my daughter Margaret one bed, bedstead and
bedding, and to my grand daughter Chloe Queen the daughter of
Stephen Queen one cow and one bed, bedstead and bedding.
Thirdly, to my daughters Mary Queen and Margaret Moreland, and
to my sons John, James, William and George, I bequeath the
sum of Forty dollars each.
Fourthly, I wish all my personal estates except that which is
above disposed of, to be sold by my executors, and after the
payment of my just debts and funeral expenses and the legacies
above mentioned, the balance of the proceeds with all debts
due to me to be equally divided between all my children
hereinafter named, to wit: Mary Queen, Bazil Moreland,
John Moreland, James Moreland, Richard Moreland, Jacob Moreland,
William Moreland, Margaret Moreland and George Moreland.
I will that the cow and bed and bedding herein left to my
grand daughter Chloe Queen should be left in the possession
of my dear wife to be by her given to Chloe Queen at her
marraige or when she comes of age.
I give and bequeath to my beloved wife the farm upon which I
now reside including the tract of about one hundred and five
acres on the North sides of Spring Gap mountain and the tract
of about seventeen or eighteen acres on the Taylor run, to be
held by her, for her own use during her natural life and at
her death to be equally divided between my said children
having named.
I wish that the farm upon which my son Bazil now lives shall
be sold by my executor as soon after my death as they shall
think best either at public or private sale, upon such terms
as they may deem most advantageous and the proceeds of such
sale be equally divided between my said children. I also
wish that my son Bazil may be permitted to retain the farm
if he thinks proper to do so at a fair rent until it may be
sold.
And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son in
law Stephen Queen and my son William Moreland Executors of
this my last will and testament, hereby revoking any all
others. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this 26th day of August 1845.
