About me

My name is Ed Swiderski and I hold amateur radio callsign KU4BP. In February 1994 I became a tech plus and received the callsign KE4JZY. I upgraded to Advanced class in April 1996 and in March 1997 changed my call to my current callsign, KU4BP. In October 2003 I upgraded to Extra class.

My primary interest is DX. Currently, I have 309 confirment countries on all bands. I also hold 7BDXCC, 5BWAZ, 5BWAC, WAS, WAE Top, CQDX and WPX Honor Rolls. Currently, I have taken an obsession with the low bands (40,80 and 160) with the hopes for completing all 200 zones on 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80. I have also participated in many contests over the years and have gravitated toward mountaintop VHF operating in recent years.

Currently my activity has been limited because of my job. I work for Lockheed-Martin as Field Technician and travel throughout the country 100% of the time. My time home is very limited and when there I concentrate on finding any new DX. When I'm on the road I generally listen to the local repeaters on my HT.

My home station consists of a Kenwood TS-850S and a Icom 706MKIIG. Antennas are 2-40m half squares 90 degrees apart up 50 feet, an 80m inverted L and a Cushcraft all band vertical. Plans are in the works for a 160m inverted L and should be on the air by fall 2008. Also, the all band vertical will be replaced by 20-10 beam on a small tower. Plans for a 12-17m beam are also in the works.

    Award Checking

I am also a Awards Manager for the ARRL and a CQ Awards Checkpoint. This means I can "Field Check" QSL cards towards awards sponsered by these two orginizations. This saves the applicant the expense, and risk, of sending QSL cards to the award sponsers as I am authorized to check cards for verification and sign the application. All the applicant has to do afterwards is mail his or her application with appropiate fees to the award sponser.

If you need any information on these awards or need a check done, contact me via E-Mail.
