With over 250 members, North Carolinians for Utah Wilderness was organized as a place for like-minded North Carolinians to collectively voice their concerns about the future of Utah Wilderness.

Our purpose is to pass America's Redrock Wilderness Act. No membership dues are necessary--we simply encourage members to write letters to their Senators or Congressperson asking them to co-sponsor America's Redrock Wilderness Act. We provide informational updates to our members by e-mail and letter.

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act designates 9.1 million acres of spectacular red rock canyons and desert lands managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Utah as wilderness.

It provides wilderness protection for magnificent canyons, red rock cliffs and rock formations unlike any on earth.

The lands included in this legislation contain steep slick rock canyons, high cliffs offering spectacular vistas of rare rock formations, important archeological sites, and habitats for rare plant and animal species.

ORV Destruction Unfortunately, oil, gas, and mining interests, destructive use by off-road vehicles, increased commercial development, and proposals to construct roads, communication towers, transmission lines, and dams threaten these fragile, scenic lands. We believe we must act NOW to protect these lands for future generations.

Off-road vehicles are considered to be the biggest single threat to plants and wildlife. Local officials and ORV users have cut illegal roads into Federal land just to prevent wilderness status.

We need to convince North Carolina Representatives to co-sponsor America's Redrock Wilderness Act (ARWA). Letters are desperately needed, especially to Senator John Edwards, and Representatives Bob Etheridge, Mel Watt, and Mike McIntyre. Representatives Frank W. Ballance, Brad Miller, and David Price have already become co-sponsors of ARWA.

Your representatives need to hear from YOU, their constituents, that Utah wilderness is an issue that matters and that you want them to co-sponsor Senate Bill 786 or House Bill 1613.

The Honorable Senator ______ The Honorable Congressman __________
